650 RW torque and 703 RWHP

Well, the 'vette is now home from the shop, with the D1S rebuilt with an A&A Corvette front bracket and tensioners, it now can produce 7.5 lbs of boost before belt slip sets in. Methonal injection really works, too: at full boost the intake air is at about 220 deg after the intercooler (as it heads to the throttle body), after the methonol injection the intake is down to about 100 degrees. This allows lots of advance.
Carolina Auto Masters did fantastic work. Everything is shipshape and solid. The methonal injection control box is neatly mounted on the dash and LED idicators (green for go, red for no) located near the speedo. And the numbers are good: 650 ft lbs of torque, 703 RWHP with a very broad power band. The engine is at 5 lbs of boost even at 3500 RPM.
They think it may be able to do 200 in the standing mile. We're going to try to take it down to Maxton next March to find out. I'm thinking of changing out the stock 3.42 gears for a lower ratio (3.00 would be ideal but I doubt that ratio is available), mostly to reduce wheelspin but also to get a 5th gear that would give 200 even.

There are some pictures in the gallery of it. The only difference now is that the tensioner bracket is a bit thicker and there is an extra hose coming into a small injector right atop the air intake just ahead of the throtthel body for the the methonal injection.

Wow Lee those are some truely impressive numbers, I can't wait to read what she does in the 1/4 mile. If you have the chance you should video tape the run so when can finally she that baby in action.

Hey Lee, I was wondering what you did what the Coils. I noticed you had some valve covers that said Corvette, but I didn't see the coils. Or are those just Coil covers. I've heard of those before too. Anyway, nice motor, and nice choice on Intake

The shop that installed the engine relocated the coil packs to under the fenders to get them off the rocker covers and out of sight. They fabricated custom plug wires and harnesses to fit.

O that is freaking sweet. But what about energy. Wouldn't you lose voltage going through the longer wire since the resistance would be greater in a longer wire? Just a thought I had. Love the idea to get those unsightly coils out of the way.

This resistance of a maybe a foot extra isn't enough to matter. I've never had a problem. They used the very best plug wire available, though.
I think GM probably put the coil packs on the rocker covers is mostly becauseputting them there means they are on the engine when it is assembled, and before being dropped in the car: that is one less job to do bolting things to the car. Thinking like this is also the main reason stock cars don't have headers: stock manifolds are short and "cling" close to the engine so they don't get in the way as it is dropped into the car, then the engine just dropped into the car in one step. Headers would have to bolted on from underneath after the engine was in the car: two extra labor steps (one for each side).

What plug wires do you have if you don't mind me asking?

Hey Lee, thats a nice setup you have there bro! Carolina Auto Masters, that is Jeff Creech's shop right? If so, I am going down there next month to have him tune my car. I was wondering how you liked the work they did? Although he is only doing a tune and I have already heard the most wonderful things about his work, it would be nice to hear from someone like you that I believe knows what they are talking about. Thanks and again, It is AWESOME!! Good job!
Matt
