I recently purchased my first Corvette...waited 25 years. Bought it from the original owner. It's an 82, with 82,000 miles. The body is straight and runs great. I want to find out about driving it on a regular basis, does the weather affect the fiberglass (live in a hot/cold environment) and how do I go about getting a quality paint job. The car has sat in a garage for the past 10 years. Original paint job. Also, the back window leaks around the seal. Where can I find a new seal. Ecklers and Mid America weren't ablt to help me find one. Any help would be appreciated. I do alot of my own work and plan on replacing seals etc on the front end, including ball joints, bushings and the idler arm. Any suggestions? Thanks for your input~

Someone correct me if I'm wrong here...

But the rear window is just placed into the frame with the black gunk, like a windshield. The trim pieces are just there for show to cover the adhesive. You can take it to a windshield/automotive glass shop, and have them either scrape and repack, or pop out the glass and re-install it. Not a bad job, usually pretty cheap (since they have the tools and experience).

Yep!! Black sealant prevents leaks. That's all there is to it. Definately a do-it-yourself project. Just be careful with the trim pieces as they are somewhat fragile.

Unless it is the Collector Edition. Then it has a hatchback and a seal that does (can) leak.

The window is operable...not fixed. The seal needs to be replaced. It got hard when the car was sitting and now has shrunk a bit and created a open spot.

Welcome to Corvette Forum.
Might check with places like Dr. Rebuild and Corvette Rubber.
