My 98 C5 Coupe is beginning to have some electrical issues. The person I bought my car from, about 3 years ago, took the sensors out of the wheels/tires. Everytime I get in my car I get a message "SERV. TIRE MON. SERV." Is there any way to permanently turn that off. It's become a habit to clear it everytime I get in my car, but I'd sure love not to have to do that. About 3 months ago, my passenger window quit working. When I took it to the dealership, they told me the actuator was out and that it would be $600 to fix it. That seems like a lot of money for a window to roll up and down. They told me that since I rarely use that window, the actuator went out. Hmmm... ok?! The other problem I'm having is the passenger seat has a mind of its own. At any given time the motor will start humming and it may or may not start moving. I mean it can be parked in the garage and it will happen. I'm at a point where I just want to unplug it. Aside from those three things, the car is a cream puff and extremely clean. I love my Vette. It only has 66k miles and seems to me like it shouldn't be having so many electrical problems. I treat her like a baby. I appreciate any help anyone can give me.

Sounds to me like someone left the passenger window down (more than once) in the rain.

Likely cause of your seat ghost is the switch assembly. I would remove it, clean it, and test it before springing for a new one. Some electronic grease can help keep the corrosion away.

Ditto for the window, start at the switch, clean and test. If that doesn't do the trick, I would take off the door panel, clean the pieces, lubricate well, and give it a try. If that doesn't work, start testing the pieces from the switch out. In my experience, window problems are generally easy to isolate, there isn't alot of rocket science involved in making a window go up and down...

I would probably go ahead and get the wheel sensors, and put them back in and take care of that.

as for that window, get yourself a manual if you don't have one already, and go ahead and try to fix that yourself. YES $600.00 is way too much to replace that. Do some internet searching for that actuator, I bet you'll find thats it's not that expensive and you'll be able to repair it yourself.

As for the seat I agree with the others, it may just be dirty contact, and I think you'll be able to solve that yourself also.
Going to be a few hours of labor involved hear but think you'll like the outcome.

Sounds like you need to take it to someone who can scan for Body Control Module codes, you might have some BCM probs on the seat thing.

Thanks! I'll pass that on to my husband and hopefully he can fix it. I appreciate your advice. Beats the hell out of paying the dealership 10Xs what it cost to fix it.
