I am in the middle of restifiying my 69 convertible. I am looking for the optimum tire size to fit on the original 15 x 8 rallyes. I want to take stance, footprint and turning radius (frame rubbing) into consideration. I have pondered 235/60/SR15's and 255/60/SR15's. The 255's have the same diameter(27.1 ") and rotations per mile (782) that the original 205/70/15's had. So, the speedo would read correctly. I am a little concerned with the cross section width of 10 inches. The 8 inch tread would be perfect. Opinions please!!!
P.S. New Corvette guy here. Have always owned Camaros and still own one.

I found the answer to my question. 255/60 SR-15's are the optimum tire for the 15 x 8 rallye wheel. That tire has the proper diameter to keep the speedo accurate, maintain proper ride height and it still fits under the wheel wells without rubbing. It also provides an 8 inch wide patch on the pavement.
