Just wanted to get some opinions. I have been playing with the idea of getting black racing stripes on my Corvette, it is a 98 in silver. What do you guys think? YES or No?

I was also thinking about going with this black rear bumper insert. Gives it a different look.

I like the inserts too. Dark blue stripes would look pretty cool also.

the black inserts are nice.but i dont like the stripes.i think your ride looks good all silver very slick if you no what i mean.the stripes will break up that smoothness.but it is your ride and you should do what you want to do not what other people think.

good luck in your choice.what ever it is it will be the right one.

For now I'm going to leave the idea of the stripes alone. If my car was red I would definitely get the black stripes in a heartbeat, but I think the silver might be fine all by itself...for now anyway.

Yep, I love 'em! There's just somethin' about a stripe, when done right, on a muscle car that just makes it look so cool. I've seen bad examples before, but the good ones are really stunning. Some people like 'em, some don't; I guess it's all a matter of personal taste.

I've seen ghost flames, why not ghost stripes? silver to a darker silver?
Subtle, but bold!!!

Love stripes on some cars. Had them on my '97 Camaro (Hugger Orange on my white convertible) But just don't like them on Vettes. Sort of like tattos on a supermodel. They would just distract from an already beautiful look.

I was thinking of black stripes on my white vette, has anyone tried putting stripes on themselves or is it best to get this done by a specialist? I saw a kit for $150 bucks which looked reasonable at:

I just saw an add for some kind of paint you can put on and wash off with high pressure water hose. try some of that and see if you like it before you do it for sure.

I have had a little experience putting stripes on before, usually because I opened my big mouth and told my buddies I would help with it. Anyway it can be done by the do-it-yourselfer, but you need to remember a couple things. The larger the stripes the harder it is to do. The car must and I stress MUST be cool to the touch. Never do it in the sun. And use plenty of the soapy solution. I have used a few drops of Joy dish soap, and it seems like it works the best. Yes the soap will leave a film on your car, so you'll have to wash it good once the stripes "Set". Use a very soft and pliable squeegee. When you put the decal on, it will have many many air pockets. The key is to start in the middle and work your way to the outside. Always middle first, than work your way out. You will see them come out rather quickly. You do have a little bit of time here to work with them, so no need to be in too much of a rush.
If anyone has ever installed window tint, it is basically the same principle. But stripes in my opinion are much easier.
ok theres my 2 cents of knowledge.

Oh BTW, never, never prick a air pocket with a pin. This does not work, and I have actually seen this listed in some instruction sheets.

Did ya'll know that at Corvette Stripes they have almost any kind of stripe you could want?
Way more than the stripes shown on this thread. The website says that there are more than 200 colors available. Also, he says that if he doesn't have the stripe that you want, he'll design it specifically for you. Just thought I'd put that website out for those looking for stripes or some kind of dress-up for your 'Vette.

I ended up coming across that site a little while after I created this thread, and if I ever decide to do the stripe thing I will probably buy them from there. Like you said he has an amazing selection of styles and colors.

I have found the strip kits add something to any sports car (including the muscle cars). But it has to be done right. Colors have to be right for the car, strips need to have the right shape. The pace car strip kits are really nice. You can see them at Phoenix Graphics website.
http://www.phoenixgraphix.com/gm.htm#corvette  They also have a lot of strip kits older muscle cars. Very cool site to book mark
