tuned port fuel injection

I have heard that the tuned port fuel injection systems on the 85-90 corvettes (i am not positive when they stopped using the tuned port fuel injection) are very costly and unreliable. Should i lean more toward buying a 90 corvette instead of the 80's? What year did they stop using the tuned port fuel injection?
