What, exactly, do you want to find out about your engine?
If a 350, you can determine if it is a 2 or 4 bolt main from your Vin.
You can find the translation of your Vin, in a good repair manual.

I have a 350, changing over to a 454, as I speak.

http://www.mortec.com has casting numbers for heads and blocks. That should be able to tell you what you have under the hood.

VIN will not tell you 2 or 4 bolt. Small block chevy's have a number stamped in the deck just in front of the passenger cylinder head. That will tell you sometimes if it's 2 or 4 bolt and also year of production, yada, yada.

Thanks for catchin' that!
I should have gone on to say that the vin will give the info to help find the engine size. I just happened to know that the 6 for engine code, in my vin, gave a model that I knew was a 4 bolt. Sorry, It was early and I wasn't quite thinkin' yet.
