alrighty, it's about that time....
i've narrowed my options down to a yellow 01-04 hatchback vs a yellow 02 z06. here's where i'm left stuck, though:
i REALLY want the removable hardtop bodystyle, and i prefer the hatchback to the frc style because it looks sleeker to me... especially when lowered. i don't like the sidescoops on the z06 (not a big issue), but those fender badges really put across a message in my opinion... (don't worry, i won't put them on a non-z06 car)
now, being around a victory red 01 hatchback (my mom's) i know the "standard" c5 is no slouch. but still, i've got some supra buddies... what it boils down to is i want z06 or better performance with the hatchback body.
as consequence, i'm wondering if it's better to get the hatchback c5 and modify its performance or get the z06 and modify its roofline. in essence it comes down to required financial influx for the modifications and any compromises that would be made to the car's frame.
worth noting is that i'm a big-time turbo guy, and my vette WILL end up with twins but probably not for 12-18 months because i'll be too busy with school.
i don't want to be unhappy with my purchase... and i feel like the z06 will break my heart if i can't get the look i want without compromising, even if it is initially faster.
comments, concerns, suggestions? thanks in advance guys and gals.

Based on what you just said I would go with the coupe instead of the Z06. I share the same opinion you do and prefer the look of the coupe better, as well as the fact you can remove the top (and with spring here thats a big thing to me). I wouldn't suggest buying a Z06 and doing a targa top conversion. I think if you buy the coupe and eventually turbo it you will forget that you ever wanted a Z06.

I had the same issue. I decided on the coupe, and with the money I saved not buying the Z06, I can afford heads and a cam. Plus, the insurance on a Z06 is higher, don't forget about that.
I see you have a 94 MR2? Those a pretty rare... I have a 91 Turbo. Faster than the Vette too!

I work for Toyota so I see a number of MR2's coming in and out for service, but that has to be the nicest one I've seen yet.

thanks for the kind words... it's a true j-spec right-hand drive car. 3rd generation 3sgte and all the bells and whistles straight from our smaller friends across the pond on our left.

Awesome car, very clean
Anyway, here's some pics and info on my 91 Turbo. Basically a TD-06 car, running 20-23 lbs of boost. I have plenty of pics, but these are the only ones online.
Car ran a 12.0 @ 115.8 on a pump gas / race gas mix. When the turbo spools, it pulls VERY hard, as you can see from the dyno plot below.
For those of you with cable or DSL, here's a 36 meg video of the dyno runs.

NICE. i love the mr2 in red...
mine only has a t3 turbo and custom exhaust manifold (well, along with fpr, bov, etc) set to 15 psi. ran a 13.4 @ 103 with one bald rear tire while fishtailing through 1st gear...
how would you compare the handling of the mr2 to the corvette? i remember the first time i hit some corners in the mr2 the front end would come around so fast it caught me by surprise...
