Hello All, I'm new here.
I have a 2004 Z06 with 27000 miles. I just got the tires changed out and of course, I got the lecture about needing to replace the brake pads. I expected that. However, I was then told that the rotors were now too thin to machine and that there is a "lip" on the outside of the front rotors. I was told that the front pads and rotors needed to be replaced. Cost: $520.
Sounded like a line of BS to me. I know shops like to nail consumers on brake rotors. The rotors do have a "lip" on them, I checked them. But I don't know if this is normal or not.
I do know the pads are soft on a Z06. I can't see how they could wear out the rotors so fast. Again, sounds like bs.
My questions are:
1. Is the "lip" on the rotor normal?
2. Is it possible I've worn the rotors down with a Z06 with only 27000 miles?
3. When I do get new pads, can I get a recommendation for something that dusts less? A little less stopping power is ok, I don't drive my car that hard usually.
Thanks!:D
