i guess that i wil be the first in here?

while i am not a regular racer by any means, i have had my car to the track a few times to see what it could do. and while i have seen magazines boast claims ranging from 12.7 and as fast as 12.4 i have only been able to muster a best of 12.89. i guess i am doing something wrong. [&o]

12.89 really isnt bad at all. how were your 60' times? were you shifting very hard?

i think i was shifting alright. some kid in a mustang decided to offer his 2 cents and told me that i shouldnt use the clutch....so i told him that my tranny cost more than his pos mustang. he asked me if i wanted to race, and i replied with, "do you want to get your ass beat?" he ran a respectble 13.2 something...i ran a 12.95..with the clutch...:)

hahahahahahahahahahahahaha...

i feel ya there silver..i hate mustang people like that...good for you! i have handed a few mouthy mustang boys their pride..i didnt ask if they were bothering to use the clutch or not..but when i run a stick, i always clutch...in nice easy street driving i will shift without, but clutchless power shifting is BAAAAAAAAAd for the driveline.

I guess I'm IGNANT!

I always use the clutch...seems like at best it will make sure the gears are lined up without jamming it in there and eventually wearing the corners of the gear teeth.

TNW, what was your reaction time on your runs? They seem like pretty decent times to me. Was the mustang a Cobra?

i thought my reaction times were ok, but a kid i was pitting next to told me in a polite way that they were not. i had 2 red lights that night, but those were my two best runs. i think my best was a 650 or something, and the kid told me that at that track .5 is perfect, but that at some tracks .000 is perfect.

it was a cobra, older one though. it wasnt one of the last couple year supercharged models, so maybe a 2000ish?

Those are decent reaction times. There's always someone out there that can beat you, and there is always someone out there that thinks they know more than you.:)

Haha, i'm a Mustang boy...but you would never catch me telling someone not to use the clutch...what the hell is that? This world is full of clowns. Holding the rpms up and riding the clutch out for takeoff usually helps ET's when you are having traction problems. Rule of thumb from my experience..."a bog is better than a burn" keep in mind that it is harder on the clutch. Also sometimes when having traction problems...short shifting(shifting early) from first to second helps. I wonder if those magazines producing those numbers were powershifting(holding the gas pedal to the floor the whole 1320 while stabbing/sidestepping the clutch pedal)....thats usually good for a tenth or more. Also what conditions were they in? If they are racing on a 60 degree day and you went on a 75 degree with poorer atmospheric pressure....that won't help. Also weight...rule of thumb 100 lbs is a tenth.....got more options? Convertible? Gasoline is like 6.3 lbs to the gallon so racing full versus empty makes a difference. Also shift rpm, find out where peak power is and maybe shift right at or slightly before(allow reaction time). There are lots of variables that will shave ET's.

i agree...i think that alot of those times are in perfect conditions...and if you lose closely, there is a "price as tested" which often is higher than the actual model price. i have never been a fan of WOT shifting, although when track racing a stick, i am especially violent with the clutch...i dont go easy on the cars that i run...:D

I sell some dragradials that can help that traction problem

12.89? What type of car? That is okay for a stock C5, but not the best possible for a ZO6. Stock, with stock tires, mine ran 12.7s with me driving, 12.6s-12.5 besty with my youngest son (only 23 and pretty damn quick) driving it. Putting BFG Drag radials (305s) on the rear cut that to a 12.39 best.

i think that he had a C5..not a Z06...he hasnt been around in a while...
