Hello all :) I am new to the Vette community and I hope to purchase my first Vette in 2006. I'm looking at a 77-82 C3 coupe with T-tops. Trying to find out more about the different models. I've seen the books on Amazon...Can anybody recommend one? Is there such a thing as the "must have" essential book for Corvettes? Or even a link to some excellent readings on the web? Thanks, see ya. Get "The Little Black Book of Corvettes". Tells you how many, what options, etc for every year...to include original prices. After that, there are a pretty good selection at any good bookstore.

I suppose the main difference you're going to run into in that year range is carb vs fuel injection. If you're the type that likes to work on the vehicle yourself (I hope you are, unless you've got deep pockets), the C3 is a very easy vehicle to work on.

Thanks for the help guys. I've been looking at allot of pictures of corvettes in the last few days and when I see a black 1981 or 1982 I know that is what I like. I'm not sure what it is about those but man there mean and aggresive, while at the same time ellegant and extremely classy.

Excellent point!! I can do some things on cars but not allot. I usually do my own servicing. Oil, filters, sparkplugs, wires. I've had to replace batteries, radiators, alternators and once a water pump. I've done brake shoes a few times also. No worries there.

I've read about a few maintenance quirks with these cars... the vaccuum lines and the headlights... the brake lines sometimes need replacing...

I'm planning on spending around $10,000 and will be getting automatic transmission. What types of work do you think I'd be running into?
