A little background: I met a girl in college here in the U.S. from Malaysia. We got married after we both graduated and as such we travel to and from Malaysia quite a bit. I love Vettes and really any American car. Loving American classics and being in Malaysia isn’t the greatest mixture though. My friends in Malaysia sympathize with me and they take photos of any neat old American cars they see.
My friend was in Port Klang just a couple of days ago and spotted what he thought was a Vette. Port Klang is the main sea port area for Malaysia and located fairly close to the Capital of Kuala Lumpur. I asked him to go back and get some photos if possible, he took some exterior ones and it looked pretty nice. I asked him to go back and get the VIN number and additional photos which he sent out today. It turns out it’s a yellow/black 1973 is actually in model, L48, automatic. The car is in really restorable shape. It appears to be totally complete minus the door panels. I have no idea how long it has been sitting there nor does my friend. I don’t know the story behind it, but being that its sitting at Port Klang it could be a dubious one. My friend and I are trying to figure out the story but no one seems to know anything. I tried searching to see if it was stolen but couldn’t come up with anything. Perhaps you guys can come up with something.
Anyway I thought it is at least an interesting story and neat to see Vettes in exotic locations. By the way I have seen 3 other corvettes in Malaysia. There is a teal 93 or so in Miri Malaysia (Island of Borneo), there is a red 71 in Penang, and a silver c5 convertible in Kuala Lumpur.
The vin number of the 73 is 1Z37J3S406505
It has a Colorado registration sticker in the window.
Here are some photos.
