How many people who own c3's that are not classified as stingrays tell others that it is just to shut them up

Not to start any arguments here but... as everyone know's 69-76's were Stingrays. All of the other C3'S (68,77-82) were just Corvettes. I have always wanted a "Stingray" Corvette since I was about 8 years old, that is why I bought a 1976. I passed by quite a few 80's and 77's that I could have bought for next to nothing because, I wanted a real "Stingray" Corvette. I hope no one takes offence to this answer, but I am just stating what I think (and know) is the correct answer to this poll..... Dan

The mid-year crowd will contend that even tho 69-76 had Stingray script on them, the 63-67 were the only "true" Stingrays. In fact a '67 just sold at Barrett-Jackson and was billed as the "Last Stingray" The '68 actually came from the Mako Shark design.

My '80 is a "Fast Back" so to speak. A lot of people call it a Corvette "Stingray". I say "No, it's a Corvette "Starship" ". They nod kinda knowingly, like, "but of course, I should have known"! I love it! :D

Starship you do make me laugh No man thats a "Starship"
.I never knew that such a debate raged among fellow C-3 owners, if you didn't own one, could you tell one year from the next?
So are all C-3's Stingrays or not?PG

Well I think if the manufacturer designates it's product with a certain name than that is what it is. if the designation is not given than it's not. right?

it's kinda like the 4 cyl. 5.0 mustang thing.

if it's a Stingray it's a Stingray if it's not, it's not. My '87 is not, my '73 is. that was simple, huh?

Even though I own one, I can'tidentify all years.

I have a 74. On the side of it it has a little decal, probably made of plastic or cheap metal. It says "Stingray". Not sure how much simpler it can get.

ok so call me stupid, but what makes the stop being stingrays?

i mean is it just because they stopped puting badges on them? i know they went from metal to plastick bumpers some time around then, but i thought that was earlier like 73ish.. (could be very wrong... not really a vette guys cuase i never saw myself driving one...)

FYI the 73 was first with front urethane bumper (still had chrome rear bumpers), 74 had urethane on both ends with a two-piece rear. 75 thru 82 had one-piece on both ends.

In '77 when they removed the Stingray script, they also moved the alarm switch (next to the script) to the driver's door lock.

my 68 did not come with stingray emblem, and i could care less. the orignal showroom lit on 68 does call it a stingray, and all GM called lit. called it a stingray, but also told you it does not come with emblem.i will remind people that owns a corvette,i dont care what year it is you own the finest american sports car ever made!

Actually there is a difference between the C2 and C3's in the script. C2's "Sting Ray" and the C3's (69 - 76)"Stingray". So, the last 67 to roll off the line was the last Sting Ray.

You should be proud of your 75. I had a 75 Camaro for 22 years. That year there were no Z28's produced. It was one of the lowest horsepower years ever. That's why I built it into a street/strip/show machine. I have a room full of racing and show trophies that were garnered with that car. The only reason that I sold it last year was to buy the 69 roadster. I always listened to people at shows that made comments about no one saving the big bumper Camaros and that the car was perfect. It was sold at the Mecum Classic car auction in Kansas City in May of 2006 and went a classic car dealer in Nebraska. So, the moral of the this long winded story is to remind you that any yearCorvette, Camaro, Chevelle, Corvair, Nova, Monza, Vegaor Impala should be saved and proudly driven and displayed.

Hell... I live in Montana. I still get asked why I aint drivin a pickup. To those that ask... it is a Corvette Stingray. Kinda covers all the bases. And BTW... the license plate on my pickup... VETTE. That one really messes with their heads...

When I was a kid, it was Corvettestingray. One word. I don't care what GM put or didn't put on the car, it's a Corvettestingray to me.

Hi 1969L46, a room full of 'Trophies" thats got to make you feel great! I've had some of the cars you mentioned, they were mostly used and when they broke down I'd get something else that I could afford. Who knew that today they are priceless!
The only trophie I ever got was Top25 out of 25 that showed up.That was with my 74 T-Top, stop laughing!
As far as Stingray or not, I never gave it any thought, I like the C-3 style, so thats whatI bought. It was only after I found this forum that I realized that such a great debate even existed. So I ordered and installed some new Stingray emblems. So will it go any faster with the new emblems? PG.
