I remember the 427 my friend's parents had in High School.. fun car, but nowhere as gorgeous as this 427 Convertible on eBay (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=2320315&SID=CFSTRIPO&mpre=http%3 A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2Febaymotors%2FChevrolet-Corvette-427-3X2-1967-CORVETTE-427-TRI-POWER-CONVERTIBLE-4-SPD-S-MATCH_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ6168QQihZ012QQite mZ220102994023QQrdZ1)

They were fairly fast by today's standards, but not fast -- they'd do about 13.5 in the quarter, high 12s if they were the very rare all aluminum solid lifer engine (but if that was the case this car would be in the mid $200s even if it was a basket case). Big cubes and high compression make for power, but those speeds (equalled by a C5 easily) from those cubes tell you how inefficient carburators were compared to today's fuel injection.
Still, its a beautifiul car, and if I wasn't under a negotiated truce not to get another car until we have a new kitchen, I'd want something similar: it was a silver coupe version of this same carthatI saw at age 16 thatset me on a 35-year dream to own a silver 'vette 427.
