I just bought a 2002 coupe with 59000 miles on it. I got it inspected by a dealer and they suggested to flush almost every fluid in the car. They also made a comment that "this car has been neglected" . Reading the manuals there seems to be no need to change all the fluids e.g. Trans, brake, streering, rear diff...e.t.c. I'm not sure if the dealer just wants to make money or i should change since the car had high miles in just a few years.
Also i'm in the process of finding a good warranty for the car. I know once you cross the 60,000 miles mark, the warranty is very hard to get and it costs too much. I've a quote from an ohio company offering a 60month/60000 additional miles for around $1600. Its an inclusive warranty (according to the sales guy, very close to bumper-to-bumper). Any suggestions ?

The dealer will tell you you need a new engine if they think you would pay for it. They just want your money for fast easy work. I would just get an oil change. If you are worried about the other fluids I would just go ahead and get them done but I would bet you could find it for half the price at a local shop than the dealer. You could even do it all yourself and safe a bunch of money.

Just what evidence is there that it has been neglected -- or did you just buy it somewhere else other than from the dealer (they'd never tell you that if they sold it to you)? It may be in good shape and they are just fishing for business.

As a rule of thumnb I think it is good to change all fluids, belts, suspect hoses, etc., upon getting a good used car 9or a bad used car, for that matter).

Ask around and take it to an independent garage. I doubt you can do really bad if you find a place that tell you they work on vettes occasionally or frequently. These places have to stay in business by being good. And a leak or water pump is no big deal. it is something you could do yourself if . . .

I bought it from a private owner. Took it to the dealer for water pump leak problem and they told me about all the fluids. $900 for changing fluids and filters.
I would get a second opinion on it and try to find an independent mechanic to change (if needed) any fluids. Do you guys know of a webs-site where i can find turorials on how to change the fluids, in case i try to do myself.?

I think the Corvette owners assocation site has a list. Or, just ask someone you see in a C4 or C5 where they get their car serviced -- few poel go to the dealer.
