Today I just got engaged to my new fiance, and on my way home after leaving her parents house I run across my firend, who lives down the street, at the local Dunkin Donuts parking lot, hehas a '04 Blue Ford SVT Cobra with exaust: x and y pipes, intake, and headers. He pulls up next to me and I told him the good news and he "Congrats" me when I notice he has a new license plate that read VETTKILR, and I say when the hell did you get that and he tells me about two weeks ago. So I ask him to back that up and race me three exits on the Palisades Parkway home, he agrees so we get on the parkway and I beep three times and we punch it at about 45 mph I pull about two cars on him till about 110 mph I have about three cars on him, finally we got to about 145 and at this point I have about three to four cars on him when all of a sudden I notice he isnt going any faster and I realize his limiter has kicked in, the car only tops at about 153 mph. So I slow down, and we had about an exit to go till we were home, so I let him pull up and he shrugs his shoulders and points to the exit so we get off and when we get to our street I pull infront of his driveway and he pulls next to me and I say "What do you think?" And he says, "I think I need a new plate!" And I just laughed and said goodnight, I think he might have finally realized why I am a Chevy guy, and I don't think he'll be praising Ford anymore or claim his car is a Vette Killer like he really thought! Just thoguht I'd share another kill I laways see nice cars by me on the Parkways, so I will always have alot of racing stories, and alot of my friends have fast cars, so stay tuned for my next race and hopefully kill.

So far this last July month: (Vette: 3 kills) '05 Viper, '06 911 S, '05 SVT Cobra

No real offense meant, but these stories don't make you out as a hero in my book. 153 mph on the Palisades Parkway? I know that road and that area. There isn't a time of day or day or the year when that road would not have some other traffic or when that would ever be safe. At times in the past I have driven quite very fast on public roads when conditions permit and I know there is no other traffic, but I have never street raced at those speeds on any public road.

Actually, I rarely ever drive fast on that road because it is busy,it is usually alot easier on 87 or the Garden State or thruway, but from exit 15 to exit 13 going south at around 12-1 in the morning there is rarely ever drivers on that little stretch, and I'm not trying to be a hero, I'm just sharing my stories, and no offense but I really could care less what you think about my stories, this is a Corvette forum and I'm sharing my race storieswith my Corvette, sohonestly your negative input isnot needed, and didn't your mother ever tell you if you have nothing nice to say, thandont say anything at all!

It seems like everyone has a problem with me on this forum, especially Lee Willis, and if he doesn'tthen that is how he is coming off, so if I'm going to be treated like a liar, I'll just leave the forum, now I know why my friends don't join forums!

You are very rude, and not the type of person I think this forum needs.

I'm sorry ChargedVette02 that was not in response to your question, I don't think oyur calling me a liar and I thank you for that but clearly Lee Willis has a problem with me and thinks the forum is better without me even after I apologized, I forgot just becasue I dont have five stars under my name makes me a moron, good thing I dont take this title with me in life, but I'll be sure to put on my next CEO resume I do have five stars under my name on corvetteforums.com, lol, I just dont gfet why this has to be such a tense place, its suppossed to be fun if you think I'm bullcrappin fine either keep your testosterone level done and never mind me, or juat say I'm sorry but I don't think that is possible, than go on your youtube.com type in corvette vs(etc...) and see some stock races and go huh I guess it is possible!

chargedvette02

Anything is possible, Lee is just suspect because he has been doing this a long time. And don't think it's because your new. If I put up a story sayingI beat an R1 Lee would call me out to. Yes it is possible, the rider of the R1 would have to be really bad but it is possible just not probable.

I understand his position and respect it, but I don't know if a Vette beating a Cobra should be suspect, now if tis the way it happened he can be suspect, but I've always had a thing in saying that if I wasn't there I can't say it didn't happen, but that is just me, I understand, but lets all put this behind us!

what is an x and y pipe exhaust+

Lee Willis
07-24-2007, 03:54 PM
A Y pipe is a pipe that connects the left and right header downpipes together and routes them to a single exhaust pipe - LS engines in Camaros and some GM SUVs and trucks have these, even if later on the exhaust splits and exits the rear as two tailpipes.

An H or an X pipe is a set of pipes that connect the two header downpipes for the V8 to a dual exhaust: the H pipe is basically two pipes, one for each side of the exhaust, connected by a crosspipe. The X is the same thing except the two sides bend and meet. (Go to websites like Corsa or Borla and look at the pictures and you'll see. H and X pipes provide more power than just a straight dual pipes (one on each side) exhaust - sharing a bit of pressure side to side, but well donwstream of the engine, leads to a bit more mid range torque.

'vettes come standard with a type of H pipe exhaust so when someone says they have a X or Y pipe exhaust, they generally mean they upgraded to bigger pie daimters, etc.

Good call. That was the transition from the old body style to the new body style huh. So that race must have been a BS story or your buddy doesn't know what year his car is.
Thanks 5.0!

I'm impressedthat heknows the year model of these vehicles that are gettin' killed. That is really sharp (if true).

Most of the time, of the few times I can actually identify a car by year, I need to see the front and the back end, and even then, it's the '60's era vehicles.

I can't think of any post-1973 model year vehicle, that I know the year (except for pace car decals, etc.)

Anybody else?

Good kill! Glad to hear you made him want to change his plate! If i were to put a "callout" plate like that on my car, id be sure i could back it up cause it sure makes you look bad when you lose! LOL! Those cobras do run damn good for what they are and are easily modded but just imagine what our vettes would do with that blower!

As far as the comments about doing this on the street, I partially agree...However, I do feel that as long as you use your best judgement and do it in the right place at the right time, running on the street isn't as big of a deal as people make it out to be. Iride streetbikesand have owned many other fast cars and im a member of alot of other forums and this is always the same debate when it comes to performance on the street. It seems that there are always some Forum members that frown on people using their cars potential on the street but i find that they are almost always being hypocritical themselves. I know you dont take the car to the track everytime you feel like romping it a little. Everyone does it on the street at some point in time. Im not saying drive it like you stole it by any means! I respect myself, the car and others on the road enough to keep it to the right place at the right time. As long as your not a fool about it, i dont see a problem.I dont think it would be a wise decision to run the gumball 500 through your local town but lets be honest here... We buy fast cars because we like driving them and using themto their potential. If anyone here says they have NEVER got on the gas on the street, I call BS! We all do it... Just be smart about it, use your head and be responsible for your own actions...

First off not cool. I have had brain farts at times so call mea hippocrite. You would be in Jail you would never see your car again or your licence for a couple years. Thats if you were caught. If you crashed you would die. Or you could come over a blind spot and see a school busand make a father throw his daughter to safety as you hit him and slamhim into a tree instantly killing him. Oh and bythe way take the limiter off the cobra go to the track and then talk. You cant claim a win over a vehicle because it was limited for safety reasons.

LOL I thought that was funny to. Not to mention the x,y pipe comment. Its either or not both LOL. I can tell you this, there is not to many vettes that could of beat my 04 cobra. I now have a 03Z06 but my cobra made 650 to the rear on a mustang dyno and 800hp on a small 75 shot.

Ford didnt make the Cobra in 05 and they didnt make it in blue in 04. The only year they made the cobra in "sonic Blue" was in 03.
