Okay, so I'm still a newb regarding working on the Z06.

I walked out from the office last night to find a 16 penny nail in the right rear tire. Flat as a pancake. I only live a mile from work so I had my wife bring my floor jack and some blocks thinking I'll just jack the car up, slip the wheel off and truck it down to the local tire shop. Yeah right! My floor jack would not even fit under the car with or without a flat tire. I ended up bringing an air tank back to work this morning and filling the tire and driving to the tire shop. Not the best of circumstances when you don’t have a spare or even a jack that will fit under the car.

So, here is the question.....
Say I wanted to jack up the car to change a tire at the track, clean the wheels, replace brake pads/ rotors, whatever, and I wanted to do it myself. What would I do? Is there a low profile jack out there that will fit under the car, especiallywith a flat tire? And, what points on the car are best for jacking when doing maintenance of this nature?

I had to build "steps" for my car out of 2"x15" wood. There are a total of 3 steps which when driven up on lift the car 6" off the ground. After that I am able to slide a jack under it. The lifting points that the owners manual shows is where I place the jack stands and I bought a set of "jacking/lifting pucks". The pucks go in a slot under the car just behind the front wheels and just in front of the rear wheels. You put them in, turn them so they won't fall out, and then place the jack on them. What the pucks do is prevent any damage to your car when either jacking it up or when it is on a lift at a shop. I've seen pucks that can be snapped in and left...and some that are removable. I have the removable type. Got mine off of ebay, slightly used, for a damn good price. You can also get them from most Corvette parts dealers. Hope this helps!

It sounds like a lot of extra work to make and use the blocks. Is there a jack you can buy that will fit under the car w/o the wooden blocks?

Eric, I haven't seen one. I bought a low profile jack craftsman jack from sears and it still wouldn't go all the way under to the jacking points shown in the manual. Now with the pucks and the low profile jack I dont have a problem...

I assume your last post means the low profile craftsman jack works with the pucks? If so, could you post a model number?

If it's the back tire you don't have to go in from the sides, you can go right from the back, there are a few sites that show you where to place the jack. That is how I do my oil changes. My vette is lowered so even steps won't work, I go from the front and the back instead of the sides and then use jack stands.

I just saw a low prfile jack yesterday at autozone and tried it out and it works on my '87. perhaps it will work for you. I have also used a palit jack in the past...LOL. funny but it works.

I went out and bought a $200 very low pro jack and it still won't fit under my car lol what a waste but oh well, I just jack from the font and back of the car.

Only mine is red....there is also a fast pump (less number to raise to max height) for more $$$. I can use it without steps with the pucks no prob...well I could....mine is lowerd now...so now I have to drive up on a 2x4 piece to get it under the pucks :) If you look at the specs....3 to 3 1/2" saddle height

Those are really nice jacks..and you can't beat the price.
