hurricanebill 12-28-2007, 10:36 PM Hi y'all just wanted to say thank you for having this forum and im thinking about buying a 1984 vette. Would like to ask y'alls opinion on it and if 3800.00 is a fair price for it. It has right around 100,000 miles and in pretty decent shape with normal wear and tear on the paint, if y'all need some pics of it ive got some ill just have to upload them when i figure out how to do it ;). Anyway i do appreciate any help in this regard and ive been wanting a vette for a very long time, and i look forward to learning about them and getting to know everyone here too. Again thank you for taking the time.......bill
I finally figured it out..lol...heres some pics of her. Hope y'all like

C3 Starship 12-28-2007, 11:54 PM Welcome to CF, Bill! :)
A lot of good folk here 'bouts, ask all the questions ya want. ;)
blueshark 12-29-2007, 12:08 AM Hey HB, Welcome to the site. Like Starship said...great folks and lots of answers. IMHO, $3800.00 for any running vette is a good price, but it really depends if you like it or not. It's really only worth, to you, is what you're willing to pay for it. '84 was the first year for the c4...that has to count for something. Paint is no problem. How does it run? what shape is the drive train and suspension in? they can be frustrating to work on sometimes but not to bad and they're definitely a blast to drive. look it over real well and good luck with it. Don't forget to wave. Cheers
hurricanebill 12-29-2007, 12:28 AM Thank you C3 and Blue and im definitely leaning toward buying it. I think the pictures finally posted so if y'all have a few mins and see what ya think. Also i love the rims on it and they must be corvette rims, but i cant seem to find any info at all on them, if ya know of anyhting on that please let me know. Ill definitely wave and i already feel like im part of this wonderful life called Corvette :D.
blueshark 12-29-2007, 12:35 AM After looking at the pictures ...that's a deal and a half, That car looks great. If it runs decent snatch it up! great lookin' car. Don't know about the rims but they're sharp, I like 'em.
C3 Starship 12-29-2007, 12:47 AM That's a great lookin' Vette! [sm=bounceybounce.gif]
I like the rims too! They really go with that red! ;)
I've seen similar rims on "Porches".
( ....but,.....how's she drive?,..Hmmmmm....? :eek:Don't just go for the pretty face, check 'er out real good. ;))
hurricanebill 12-29-2007, 12:54 AM Thank you Blue and C3... i know im hooked too, she rides kinda rough but ive always been told the c4s did, but it tracks nice down the road and seems to pull pretty good too from a stop. I do notice however that after its warmed up and i shut it down for a few mins and then come back to restart, i notice some blue smoke but im assuming thats most likely the valve seals cause it hasnt been driven alot for its age. Other than that i think a good tune-up and fluid change is in order, also tires are good as well and jsut little mickey mouse stuff needs fixed. To me she runs right on. Thank you again for taking the time..i truly appreciate it...bill
C3 Starship 12-29-2007, 12:56 AM ........and somthing that I think everyone will agree on,....is.....
( you will have to put money in it, just ain't no gittin' 'round it, no matter what modle, no matter what year,but,......................................... ...................... Ya only go around once, why not go around in a Vette! ;))
hurricanebill 12-29-2007, 01:04 AM Amen to that C3 i totally agree and im looking forward to learning about corvettes and what makes them tick, and i know ill be here alot and maybe just maybe oneday i can help someone like y'all have already helped me :D[sm=smiley20.gif]
C3 Starship 12-29-2007, 01:38 AM ...and we'd like to have ya help out if ya can. ;)
Electrical will have issues, so will the suspension, and drive train. Just like any other car. When ya go to check it out, get in, fire it up, and start playin' with everything! Take note of everything that doesn't work. Take 'er for a drive. Does the steering wheel bounce, vibrate or pull to one direction? Are there any *clunks* during excel/decel? Do the brakes pull to one side or will she stop in a straight line?
They're not "broken",but "sick", and we need to make them well! :)
hurricanebill 12-29-2007, 02:29 AM C3 im gonna look her over some more too, she seems to handle well and do just fine on the road, but im not too sure what im looking for in that area, just comparing it to my other car in regards to how she feels, steering and all feel tight and responsive engine sounds tight too, i do notice when i engage the trans it engages kinda hard but it shifts perfect so im not worried about that. Like i said earlier the only thing i can see is the blue smoke when starting her up after shes warm, and even that clears right up in a few seconds, so i feel sure thats just valve seals. Other than that shes in pretty goood shape i feel for a almost 24 year old vette.
P.S. C3 it also has a decal on the back under the license area that says Police Interceptor...what the heck is that. LoL
C3 Starship 12-29-2007, 10:07 AM :DI've never heard of a "Police Interceptor" Vette, but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
I wouldn't make a habit of intercepting the police though, could prove to be rather costly. :D
From your photos and descriptons, I think you may have found a very nice Vette, at a very reasonable price. ;)
blueshark 12-29-2007, 08:04 PM Me too! sounds like a great find. The C4's are a little rough riding but that's just the stiff great handling suspension GM stashed under them. My '87 rides rough but handles like a dang dream.
Police interceptor? that's interesting. I've never heard of a PI vette either but I know in Gainesville Florida they had 3 vettes in service. I think they were drug bust booty though. They had several hot cars. I also know in '68 The Georgia HP had Big Block vettes as well on the I 75 and I 95. No sense running from them, LOL!
This is a great place to learn. It's loaded with real helpful and smart(not me, I'm stupid) folks that are more than happy to help as much as they can. So jump in and join the fun. We're glad to have ya. Check her out real good and bite the bullet. They can all be fixed if need be. Don't forget the wave. cheers
Hi and welcome to the forum, that sounds like a great deal! An 84 Vette for $ 3800.00 seams like a very good price. The photo's look good so take a chance, drive it for a few months and you'll be hooked.
Any car that's 32 years old will need some work, and there is plenty of help on this forum. PG.
Toms94 12-30-2007, 05:34 PM That's a pretty good looking car for the money, I wouldn't worry too much about the miles. Ask if they have any maintenance records. Things to look for are weatherstripping, it can get in your pocket pretty quick. The 84's had the stiffest suspensions of the C4 years (even with the Z51 cars of later years) and if this one has the Z51 handling package (my guess is that it does) then it is even more so.
I'm not sure where the RPO codes are on an 84 (glove box door, console lid, rear compartment lid are common places), but if you can find them they will tell you alot about the car.
hurricanebill 01-02-2008, 09:43 PM Hey y'all just wanted to let everyone know i did get the 84 and i love her and i look forward to many years of getting to know y'all and the corvette [sm=icon_rock.gif]
C3 Starship 01-02-2008, 09:48 PM O.K.,...........now,.....it's picture time. ;)
How about it, hurricane? :)
Toms94 01-03-2008, 04:48 PM Yup, time for some more pictures.
C3 Starship 01-03-2008, 06:57 PM If ya look at some recent pics, takensince she's been with ya,
I guarrrr-on-teee, that you'll see a whole different car. ;)
Show us what you see. :)
Take 20 pics, and show us your favorite 5?
Better yet, openyour photogallery with us![sm=smiley20.gif]
O.K. Bill go for It welcome to the family and love the Rims Too
tom did you use 13" rotors and what do you think about BARES
Toms94 01-09-2008, 10:01 PM My 94 is a Z07 (performance handling package) it came from the factory with 13" front rotors (RPO J55). The rotors that I used were Gripforce (from ebay) with the Hawk HPS pads. I think Baer brakes are very good, although I've not used them (I can't justify the cost for a street driven car).
Car looks great! It is at a great price, too!
hurricanebill 02-25-2008, 04:29 PM hey yall..again i want apologize for not being here lately but found out some more info on the rims on my 84...apparently they are guldstrand edition rims and im assuming the whole car is cause it has special eched glass windows, so i dont know but if yall have any info on that please by all means let me know...again thank you everyone for taking the time with this.....bill:)
