Hi Everyone. I am in the process of restoring a completely stock 1969 convertible. The car originally came with Cragger Mag Wheels and I do not remember the tire size. I recently had the car painted and, when I got it back, the shop had removed the old tires/wheels and replaced them with a set of used (pretty ugly) "rally" wheels. The rally wheels had 235/60 R15 tires on them. I had removed the tires/wheels this past weekend to have the wheels sand blasted and painted and have ordered new "rings" and "center hubs" for the wheels. My question is - WHAT IS THE BEST TIRE SIZE TO PUT ON THESE 15 INCH WHEELS.

The "TireRack.Com" web site says that the specs call for a 205/65 R15. At first, I was thinking of a 215/70 R15. Then, I thought the more rubber on the ground is better, so I was going to a 225/70 R15. Now that I have mentioned the car had 235/50 R15's on it, the TireRack reps are pushing 235's. I need to know what is best - given that the car will be used only for "Sunday Driving" and primarily highway crusing.

Secondly, anyone have thoughts on the Firestone Firehawks? Thanks so much! Bob Fliegel

 

235 IN THE FRONT AND 245 IN THE REAR. THATS WHAT I HAVE ON MINE.

HAVE ORIGINAL 68 VET WITH HARD AND SOFT TOP. HAVE KEPT IT ORIGINAL WITH 95,OO0. I HAVE TOYO SPECTRUM P215/75R15 ON IT NOW. IT IS A 327WITH AIR. A QUESTION FOR YOU-- DO YOU HAVE FACTORY AIR BECAUSE I AM LOOKING FOR REFRIGERANT HOSES FOR IT THAT I THINK THE FACTORY USED 67 HOSES ON IT. THEY ARE NOT COMPRESSION HOSES, BUT OLD TYPE SCREW CLAMPS. IF YOU NEEED HELP REBUILDING LET ME KNOW, I AM NOT A MECHANIC BUT HAVE TAKEN CARE OF MY FUN CAR. I BELIEVE THE TIRE SICE IS ORIGINAL!!

 

Hi, I have a 73 convertible that I put the Firehawks on; did exactly what you did repainted the rally wheels and put new rings on. The tire is awesome, I really thought about some of the tires other people posted and can't speak to them but my car rides super with the Firehawks, not only that they look great with the white raised letters. Specs were similiar to yours but I put a wider tire on because that's what was on it. I think you can't go wrong for the price. Good luck.
