ecm question
since i'm getting no reading from my new scanner and believe my ecm is bad i'd like to know if any other ecm (camaro etc.) would work on my 1985 or does it have to be '85 vette ecm as my friend has a junk yard and told me to let him know before buying a new ecm. also if that's the case would it need to be reprogrammed.........rsvp

RE: ecm question
Match the GM production number off the ECM. You can get good quality rebuilds just about as cheap as used. No reprograming done on that ECM, all done witha prom chip, also would need to match GM production number. I would get the prom from GM, because you can get the latest updates already burned into it. RE: ecm question
i tried my local chevy dealers and no luck on the eprom or rebuilt ecm. any suggestions on who to contact, also as i stated before i'm getting no codes or flashes with my new code scanner just the service light stays on, so again would these items need replacement or should i try an actual shop computor scan before buying them as i'm new to corvettes and making every effort to learn them, i just bought this 1985 from an auction for $3500.00. starts great, sounds strong but dumping that fuel on 8 cylinders and can't scan for the codes to find out why.........HELP PLEASE

RE: ecm question
Try your local Carquest store. Have you got the number off the PROM? GM should have it or can get it. Get me the number and I'll check. It might have been updated several times. [8D]
