Default problem with emergency brake ?

hey everyone

I have a question about the e-brake. I was testing an '85 and applied the emergency brake and the handle went to the floor - It did make the ratcheting sound - and I already had the car in gear so it held the hill - I guess I am wondering what kind of repair that might entail before I make an offer

any help is greatly appreciated

I read some more articles - the brake handle lays down after it is engaged - is that true?

Yes, once it's 'locked', the handle will lie down at the bottom of it's arc. Be hard to get out of the car if it didn't.
Just remember to disengage the parking brake, pull up on the handle and then while pressing the button, lower it to release the parking brake.

There are no dumb questions as long as they are honest questions. Had the same question when I bought mine and it didn't come with an owners manual, had to figure it out myself at that time.
