C3 radio bezel removal

C3 radio bezel removal
Recently purchased a 1977 C3 vette. The car is all original and has been well loved by its previous owners. The car still has an aftermarket JVC am-fm-cassette stereo with *****. I want to remove the gauge bezel and upgrade to new CD type radio. Ive been a mechanic for 30 years. I have removed the phillips head screws but nothing gives. Im to the point that I believe something must snap apart. It is a 4 speed car. Does the shifter cover and parking brake cover have to come off too? I wish it was as easy as thosefake allen screws molded into the bezel make it look!!!I also want to change the dash speakers. How hard is that? Thanks for your help.

RE: C3 radio bezel removal
Hi Bruisercruiser and welcome to the forum.
To get the guage bezel out you must loosten two nuts on the bezel under the radio, you can get to them but it's not easy.
On my 74 I had to remove the top dash to get to the speakers, someone with a 77 will reply, maybe your year is different. PG.

RE: C3 radio bezel removal
Welcome to the Corvette forum. Take off the two side extensions on the front of the console and you can see the two studs pg shows in his pic. I used a six inch flex extension from my 1/4" drive set to get to the nuts. I think that's why my back is sore most of the time from laying under dashes. Be real careful removing it as it is easily breakable up near the top where the sides get real narrow. It's expensive to replace. [] Good luck with your project.
Just realized that you are dealing with a '77. It might be different.
