Default Front Wheel Noise

Yesterday I went to take my 90 Roadster for a spin. When I pulled out of the garage it sounded like I had rocks in my front right wheel. This seems to happen when I'm turning. I was guessing a wheel bearing. How would I check this and if so replace it. I'm trying to keep away from my mechanic since lately I seem like I'm making his house and car payments. Thanks in advance for the help.

I just looked up the parts and this looks like a hub assembly and its not cheap. Guess I first need to pull the wheel and see what's going on.

When my '87 did the EXACT sam ething is was the brakes not the wheel bearing (thank god).

To check the wheel bearing I was told to jack it up on that side, remove the tire and rotate the area by hand. He said I would know if it was the bearing. But, I believe you said it was upon turning so I really thing in is the brakes.

There are obviously a lot more qualified peeps here than I That is just what I would HOPE for...

Good luck either way

Usually a failing bearing will be un-noticeable in the parking lot. At speed, you might feel a oscillating hum - no vibration, like an out of balance tire... If it does completely fail at speed, it will scream, as it attempts to seize.

Rocks? Light grind, maybe? How 'bout your wear indicators on the brake pads scraping the rotor...

One bearing check - get the wheel in the air, grab it at 9:00 and 3:00 positions, and try to wobble it to and away from you. There should be almost zero lateral movement.

Like I said, probably the brakes.

You will be VERY happy with this.

Much easier/cheaper to fix
