I am about to purchase an '87, and it has the factory wheels which, in my opinion, are very bland and kind of ugly.
Also, the tires seem to be getting harder to find which leads me to the following question:
What would be a good wheel and tire combo for this car? I want to stick to 16" wheels, but would like to go to a tire that isn't so wide and is more readily available. I won't be racing this car; it will be a pampered Sunday driver.

I have been down this road. The best ride, handling, combination for my 87 is 17" rims, 315 35 17s for the back and 275 45 17s for the front. The improvement in ride and performance is amazing. No rubbing fit well. The price is reasonable buying a package.

 

not all of us can afford to throw 4 grand into tires and wheels. I wish good ole cragar SS`s would fit my `87

What's the backspace and the thickness of the spacers you're running? I don't think it's 36-38mm from what I've read.
