started my project 1984 vette
Ok so I am new to the vette world always wanted one now I have one. I got a project 1984 runs drives paint was bad. old owner put 1995 front and rear bumper on car or tried to lol. I started to sand car wow counting primer 7 different layers of paint. going to take a while to get this off. bumpers only had 2 layers. going to remove all old paint and start fresh with epoxy primer then base coat clear coat paint. I know stripper is not recommended but I did use some on the lettering on the back bumper everything else I will sand the old paint off. As I was sanding the car tonight I started to wonder about the stories behind so many coats of paint and the people that did them. Why were they done were they done as a job or by someone that loved the car. just makes you wonder about the tails each car could tell about the people that have worked on it over the last 28 years and will someone be sitting down with my car in the future wondering about the work I did. well I plan on documenting my project here to tell my part of the story. I would like input, tips, and tricks from those that have done this already. here is a pic from the day I went to get the car.

Nice thoughts. I'm starting work on my first vette too...1993. Ill be doing paint work in the future. What ty pe of sand paper are you using on the fiber glass. Will you have any fiber glass repairs? I would be interested in seeing how that works.
You car looks good for having that many coats of paint.

I am Using a DA and starting with 80 grit paper from lowes I spent 14 hours sanding the hood alone. Yes I have 2-3 small repairs to make. I plan on grinding them out into the original fiberglass approx. 1 inch wider on each side of the crack using resin and fiber glass mat to complete the repair. I am using nassen epoxy primer after I get the whole car prepped.
