I Want More Speed! 74 Corvette Questions
Bought a 74 corvette about 6 weeks ago. Love it so far. Great condition basically 100% stock when I got it. Had a couple minor issues nothing crazy. Frame and bird cage were almost completely rust free which was nice. Got it for a steal so I couldn't pass it up. Car LOOKS great, but isn't the fastest. I have beat plenty of people off the line after the changes I've made to it but still lots of people can smoke me. I don't have a crazy budget but I also don't mind having to go the extra dollar.
Things I have done to it:
Hooker Long Tube Headers (kept stock exhaust/mufflers and just flex piped)
Hei Distributor
Full Tune up with MSD Street Fire Wires
Replaced the power steering pump (I know this wont help with anything but had a leak and needed to be done lol)
Put in a new starter/battery
Now to the things I have in my garage but haven't installed:
Edelbrock performer intake (custom ported) with gaskets
Matching edelbrock carburetor 650 with gaskets
So now to the things I'm considering doing:
-Should I install the intake/carb over the stock? will it make a big enough difference?
-Recurve distributor with kit?
-rear end gears from 3.08 to 3.73
-Exhaust system(looking at side pipes)
-Jet/Rebuild carb?
Any info at all or advice would be great! I just wanna go fast like ricky bobby!

Welcome to the forum.
A properly tuned Q-jet and a good aluminum manifold is best bet. Big valve heads will help breathing since you have headers already. Next get the L-82 cam which is basically the old 350/350 cam. Make sure you mechanical advance is all in by 1200-1500 rpm. I'd keep vacuum advance for street-ability.
That's about all you can do w/o spending big bucks.
