65 directional switch

65 directional switch
A friend has a 1965 corvette. Both tail lights blink when the ignition is turned on. They both stay on if the brake pedal is pressed. He just went through the long procedure of disassembling the steering column and replacing the directional switch with a NEW one. He has owned and worked on his 3 corvettes for years. Wiring diagrams do not show how switch actually works. Any help appreciated.

Up is right, down is left.
I'm sorry, I couldn't help it. [&o]
Maybe, now just maybe, the emergency flasher is activated. Check it, it's so easy toturn it onand not know it, especially when working around the steering colume.

RE: 65 directional switch
This 65 (and I believe all) do not have emergency flashers. But thanks for the fast response. We believe the brand new switch had the same defect as the old one we removed. We connected another switch (not installed, just plugged in) and all appears fine. We are about to replace the switch (dissassemble the steering column) once again. We're goin to check for cross shorts or grounds we may have caused during the initial installation of the new switch by trying it plugged but uninstall in the column. What a bear of a job.
