RE: 81 vette steering problem...help!
I would have your tires and rims ,, Road tested on a road test balance machine... My car was all over the place,, even after new tires and alignment,,, took it back for a road test alignmnet, $100 and they fixed all the probs,, it was in the rims..

Ok guys, first of all, thanks for all of the replies. Second, I learned an important lesson here- be MORE specific with the details when asking a question. Many of your answers had to assume things that I should have either confirmed or denied in the first place, that would have sped things up a bit...
So now, a quick recap. The car would "dive" left or right when steering (was like this when I bought the car). I took it to the tire shop, got 4 new factory spec radials and lower ball joints, along with the 4 wheel alignment. It still 'dove' left or right. Turns out that the Power Steering Control Valve was the culprit. Adjusting it made a bit of difference so I knew I was on the right path. I ended up replacing it because it was leaking and now she handles like a monkey with sneakers on! Oh, and as a bonus, I also got to replace my fuel pump while I was under there since it began leaking too! Joy!
Thanks again,
Mike
