Default which model

Can someone tell me how to tell the difference between a early model 77 corvette and a late model 77 corvette? Thanks

The serial(vin) number should give you some Idea as to where in the production run is falls. Cain't remember but do these cars have a "manufacture date" on the RPO sticker? Cheers

The sticker on the driver's door tells mine was built in October 1977, mine is a 1978 model. A couple of small items are carry-over from '77. When I ran the VIN through another site, it came up as a build date of October 3rd, 1977. I don't know the exact date or difference between the early and late '77.

I have '76 and there are some slight changes from early to late production on that year as well. Going by a part description in a catalog, one difference on the '77 is the engine coolant recovery tank. The tank for an early '77 will haveboth hoses attached to the cap, one for overflow and one tank to radiator hose. A '77 late tank has a tube connection for the tank to radiator hose. This tubeis part of the tank itself, attaching on the bottom of the tank. If your car still has the original tank this might be a clue.

The "Stingray" was gone for 1977 due to Bill Mitchell retiring-he was responsible for the original "Stingray" design. With no more "Stingray" on the side of the front fenders, that panel was blank for early 1977 production, (for exactly how long this took place, it doesn't say,) then the "crossed flag" to match the front and rear emblems was added to the sides.
