Hi again 79cvette, Page 9-12 in the shop manul shows the rear axle cross-section, if your talking about the snap rings inside the yoke, then you've got a big project ahead of you. Everything has to be taken apart, some take the carrier off the crossmember others take off the crossmember and carrier since it;s so hard to get to the bolts. I might guess that you have a worn spindle and worn bearings, if that snap ring was broken that rear would be toast. PG

Hey pg, Happy 4th of July. Sorry I have been out of town. Don't have any manuels. But I did have a friend who know's the Vette guroo at the local GM dealership here.He is to give me a call about it this week sometimes. So I will pick his brain as much as possible. I am hope it is just a freak thing. The car handles great and rides just fine. This car was restored in 1999 with a new 350/300 hp engine, and rear axle was replace with a 3:08 a few months later, since then it has only 30,000 miles on it. So I am hoping there is no bearing failure back there. This just started out to be a insulation job on the inside....My luck. I will kep you guy's informed. When finished I will post some pics.

Happy 4th of July to everyone. Well guy's here is the latest new on the snaprings breaking. After talking to many, many people. I found a guy in New Orleans that him and his dad have been restoring vettes for 30 years. I was told that on 79 C-3 only.Had that problem, The fix they came up with was to raise the rear suspension by 1-11/2 inchs. What it does is bring the axle shafts more straight. The angle they are at keeps a bind on those snaprings. That makes alot of since to me. So know I will take the next step and replace both snaprings again and raise the end by a 1-11/2. I will get a angle reading before and after. When complete I will post them. And yes I am at work today, We get Christmas and Thanksgiving off.....Within the next couple weeks I should have this done. So wish me luck. Thanks for all the advice.
