Advance Auto (old Western Auto and Parts America) can check the alt, starter, and battery on the car.  Maybe others, don't know.

Spend a couple bucks more and get a factory service manual from Helm.  I got a Haynes and found it to be about on par with a Chiltons.

Edit:  See I'm too late with the book advice but see someone else mentioned it also.  More info is usually better tho.  Very nice looking car.  Does the nest-of -snakes side exhaust have the mufflers in it or have you even had a chance to hear it?

not sure if it has mufflers or not, the last time heard it, it sounded great but it's been about 8 years. I'm guessing that exhaust is not stock, correct?

Correct.  They are Hooker or Hooker look-a-like nest-of-snake header/side exhaust.  They come with slip-in mufflers that are basically a glass pack without the outer shell.  Supposedly they slip out and you can run open exhaust but usually once they've been in for a while, the rust holds them.  You can remove the straight portion of the side mount tho.

NickD,
I am having the same problem with my 1979 C3 but it is taking about 1 week to drain the battery (4 from Advance so far).  Follow the procedures on page 5-2 in the haynes manual for troubleshooting the chargine system.  I have narrowed my short down to the CTSY CLK (fuse) circuit  and I don't know what to do now.  I am disconnecting each item in the circuit until the short goes away.  No luck yet!
