i have a 1979 vette that I want to use for car events. i plan on using it 4,000 miles a year at the most. i will be 55 yrs old in april,have a perfact driving record, live in california. I have tried j.c.taylor and Grundy. they both declined to insure me. I was told they insure cars that are 25yrs and older. any one know on another insurance company that will insure me at a good rate?

Are you trying to get insurance for the vale of the car, or simply coverage so you can drive it?
If the latter, just put it on you present insurance policy.
As to the later, I'd keep checking places: look through some Porsche and kit-car enthusiast magazines at newsstands. I know there are places that will insure a Hot rod kit car or an 99 Mu8stang GTR, so . . .
But realize that to insure that actual car for a specific value with Grundy, etc., you have to have receipts and proof that it was worth that. The value you attach to a 1979 vette and the value they accept might be far apart. How you resolve this I don't know. what does you regular car insurnace company say?

Geico handles my '81 vette, as well as my '75 Bricklin. No problems, and decent prices from what I've shopped around. I have the vette at 5000 miles a year (the old girl is resting a bit after 211k miles), and the Bricklin is at 500 miles (when and if it ever runs). The policy is for replacement cost, so if it is a show car or highly customized, you'll have to have docs and appraisals. If you are willing to settle for book value, they just write the policy based on average sale prices.

Hello, you may want to try American Collectors Ins. I have had my 73 Vette insured with them since it turned 25, and just recently insured my 87 Fiero gt with them, The creteria for it to be a collector car is it is a model no longer in production & at least 15 years old and we all know the Stingray is no longer in production , also no more then 2500 miles a year, I have both cars insured with a combined premium of around $380.00 a year. Also it cannot be modified.
