Lee Willis -> RE: Loaded Z06 or Loaded Coupe?? (8/13/2007 1:14:48 PM)

Your $20K basically buys about 65 extra HP and bigger wheels, and slightly more performance orientation all around, etc. Either way, opt for the premium interior upgrade: though pricey at nearly $8K (it includes other stuff, too) it seems to make a world of difference in the feel or the car. If it were me, I think I would go for the standard model with the LS3 engine. The performance difference is not that much -- not enough you would feel it when driving every day -- and the money is a substantial difference. What your $20K buys you is that you're driving the meanest dog on the street -- except for $250K+ exotics nothing stock is faster, period. Nice feeling, no doubt about it. Trouble is, within a very short time -- certainly only two years -- there will be one or two or more out there faster: the newer SS Corvette for sure, the new 600 HP Viper (just as sure to be faster), and maybe the Lexus V-10 coming out, and maybe the V-10 Audi R8 within two years. All will cost more, but, you know, that's the way it goes. And it's all academic: all these cars and the LS3 "base" model are faster than "just about anything else" and proving which is faster would be far too dangerous on the street: take it to the local track and you could sort it out but the problem there is anything stock will get sand kicked in its feet: my 'vette will put nearly 15 lengths on a C6ZO6 with headers and drag radials -- and it gets beat, sometimes badly, by more extreme cars out there (its sole advantage is it really is as civilized as a stock model). So, in my view you are paying nearly $900/month for the right to drive, for two years, a car with the image (and near-reallity) of being "the fastest thing on the street:" lotta money for image.
