I am buying a 1985 c4. I have heard mixed reviews. Overall pretty good. Any feedback on potential problems I should look for?

Hi jp91209, and welcome to the Corvette Forums.

I own an 85, the first thing you have to understand is the car is 22 years old, and things are gonna wear out, as with any car that old. The 85 was an improvement over the 84 with the tuned port injection, and the 86 had some improvements over the 85. The one thing that comes to mind at the moment is the 85 has a mass air flow sensor burn off "module", where in 86 they went to a burn off "relay". I don't know about the relay, but the module for the 85 is pricey, around 5 or 6 hundred bucks if you have to replace it. Mine recently blew the fuse for the module and it has me a little worried that it may be on it's way out. Nonetheless, I love my 85, and I enjoy driving it. Good luck with yours.

Shiver is right, 22 year old car equals possible work.  The l98 engines are a good engine, the HP rating does not look that great, but the pack a good amount of torque.  You aren't going to be going 200 anyway, so torque is really what you need.  If you want proof for that engine, just go to car shows.  It is easy to spot with the long runners, and you find those engines stuffed in old hot rods quite often, so that means they should be reliable, at least, as reliable as any 22 year old car.  Plus, those years are good to buy right now imo.  Never buy a car for an investment, stock market and real estate almost always smarter.  But, the 1985 market is probably almost at the bottom of the price range it will ever be in.  Which meants, if you buy it, and take care of it, when you go to sell it you should probably at least get your money back.  FREE CAR!!
