I was doing yard work and, believe it or not, I found an engine.  From what I can tell it may be a Corvette engine, but I was hoping someone could tell me definitively.  Is it worth anything dirty and rusty?  Here are the codes:

Casting: 3756519
Date Code:J308

Thanks, Doug

hey Doug, I don't if it is a corvette motor but from the casting number it is a 283 built between 58-62.  Now from the date code you have it dreaks down to J=October 30= the day of the month so its the 30th and the 8= the year of the decade so since the casting number was only made between 58-62 my guess is it was made in 58. So my guess is the engine you have was casted on October 30th 1958 but as for it being a corvette motor i have no idea

'Vette motor or not, a '58-'62 283 is a pretty neat motor to have, considering it's rebuildable.  I remember the hot '57 Chevys with the 283s worked into a 301ci.  It was the going thing at the time.  A heck of a neat find.
