What is so bad about the Goodyear runflat tires?  Several guys on this board have stated they hate them, will never use them again, etc.,  I am a new first time Corvette owner & the car has the Goodyear runflats.

Not really sure as I haven't used them, But I think it has to do with the harder compound and the handling characteristics.
and welcome to the site if I haven't extended that already. Cheers

Good question, I wondered that myself.  I have a 2007 convertible with about 7500 miles on the goodyear runflats.  pretty decent tread left .  I don't have a problem with them at all (ie.  Road noise , handling , ride quality )  I don't understand if the issue is cost $425 a tire or what, but thats a small price to pay to not need to tow it or worse yet leave it somewhere if you get a flat. And what do the rest of you get put on instead of the stock tires ?

My first 07 vette (that's another story) came with runflats and doing spirited track driving I got 3,200 miles before the tread was gone.  My second 07 vette came with the same tires and I will leave them on until the tread is gone.  Yokohama are my tires of choice.

I can only suggest finding someone who has a vette without run-flats and asking him to let you take'r out for a "test drive".. the difference in the feel is amazing.. I have BFG KDW2's and it feels like a completely different car... much smoother and the car feels lighter and grips better..  kinda like wearing dress shoes vs sneakers... my 2 cents.

I have never had it out to a track, but run it pretty hard during everyday driving. I work and live off a main highway (new road with very little traffic) and don't think they are that bad.  How much do the other choice tires cost and what do you do in the case of a flat ?

The run flats are not bad, especially when you have only driven your 'vette with them. BUT, once you go with a good NON-run flat, yo u will NOT go back.

Wait till you see how good the car REALLY handles!

By the way, I'm running BFG KDW2s and I LOVE them!!!!!

Because run flats are harder than non-run flats they typically have a hard/noisier ride that a regular tire.  A regular tire will usually grip the road better as well.

I will stick with run flats on my 2005 Z-51, but I'm not a fan of the original GY tires...premature tire wear and expensive to replace.  I don't race the car, but want decent and reliable performance.  Anyone have any experience with the Firestone Firehawk Wide Ovals (check tirerack.com)??
