Hay everybody! On my way to the Van Halen  concert this last Thursday, I noticed my oil pressure do a steady climb straight to 80psi! I pulled over, shut down for about 5 min., but to no avail. I figured more psi is better than less (plus I wasn't about to let my floor seats go to guys that sneek down from the nosebleed section), so I continued on with no problem.

My normal psi averages 40 in my C5. Now I figure more psi is better than less...but how much more? I let the car sit for approximately 36 hours and it still reads 80 when the car is both started and just in the "on" position without cranking.

I read the other post regarding a difference in reading between the HUD and the dash guage...but both of mine are max'd out!

Any insights, opinions, and/or remarks are greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

You probably have a bad oil pressure sending unit, or else a problem with the wiring that goes to the sending unit. The sending unit is way back behind the intake msnifold. If I remember properly, on your car if the oil pressure wire gets disconnected the gauge will read on the high end, and if it is grounded it will read on the low end, but I would not swear it is not the other way around. If you actually had oil pressure that high, I would expect the gauge to read lower wit hot oil at idle, when the pump is not turning fast enough to produce that much pressure.

Thanks Tacky...I'll look into it tomorrow! Also, I checked my DIC and it said my Oil Pressure is 130psi.

Yep, mine went south too. Plan on changing it but I'm going the smart way and relocating it to just under the fuel rail covers with a kit that I got from Perry at DPE Corvettes. A sweet relocate and the next time it goes south (which it will, I guarentee), it will be a 10 minute fix for me
