A simplified explanation,.... concider an airplane wing. The air moving over the top of the wing causes lower pressure than under the wing, thus causing lift. Good for airplanes, bad for Vettes.
The whole purpose of "ground effects", is to reduce the air pressure from under the car (wing), and reducing lift. In a sence, you can almost "glue" the car to the road with the propper air flow. Follow that up with good suspension, and she won't "float", but attain stability. The faster she goes, the greater the downforce, and the more your suspensioon comes into play. Air flow keeps 'er down, suspension keeps her from plowing the ground for spring planting. 
Thus, we have attained balance, grasshopper.

Ahhh....
Thank you for your wisdom and guidance learned one....
But master, why are Corvettes so desireable?

Hey Texas Jim - I was in Hawthorne for a while, just above Ossining. Lived in NYC most of my juvenile life, then moved to S. Jersey in the late 70's.
I have not had the car up to those speeds with the big chin spoiler on it so I don't know what difference it will make. I am planning on doing the fiberglass repairs to it and reinstalling it before the warm weather comes back. It is just not easy for me to get motivated to lay on my back in the driveway this time of year to install it. Maybe I can weazel some lift time out of my local garage and install it indoors while the car is up in the air. I have spent so much $$$$ there that it is hard for them to say no to me . After that I am going to air bag the front suspension so I can lift the front end over the driveway apron when needed (JUST KIDDING!).
Lets keep talking about a get together too! Late August is usually good for me to take a week or two off. Maybe we can arrange for a meet and cruise. Anybody ever heard of the "Tail of the Dragon" ? It is an awesome road in (Deals Gap) Tennessee that is a big hit with motorcycle and sports car enthusiasts. It has something like 311 turns in less than 15 miles, many hairpin turns, switchbacks, lots of mountain driving and great scenery too! It is about a day to a day and a halfs drive from me. If anyone has driven Topanga Canyon in California then you know what to expect! It is as much fun as riding a roller coaster!
Hey PG! Thanks for the compliment! Now try and imagine her with a fresh coat of black garnet pearl paint on her. That is a black paint job with deep red metallic (garnet) special pearl effects. Only problem with that is - I'll be afraid to drive her with a nice (expensive) paint job like that!

Speakin' of Calif. roads, have ya driven hwy 49 or 89? The North ends are the most fun. 89 goes along the West shore of Lake Tahoe.
