Finally figured out what they're called- torque sticks.

When I was walking through the Walmart automotive hallway, as I park in the back sometimes due to not wanting to walk a mile from the main lot, I saw the guy with the impact wrench next to a car on the lift and on the end of the wrench, he had an orange socket and extention. I didn't think much of it at the time, thought maybe it was marked so no one would steal it. It must have been the wrench socket that you're talking about. I'll stop next time and ask the guy to explain it to me.

I my case, it would be just another "gimmik" in my tool box. I wouldn't use it enough to make it worth while to buy them.

I agree. And I'd still rather see them use a torque wrench. They could always grab the wrong torque stick.
