Do you think that the line is formed by the spark jumping from the entire width of the ground electrode to the entire diameter of the center electrode? I suspect what's happening is that each spark occurs at a different point each time which leaves the line across the electrode. What we need is one of those engines that they can observe the whole combustion process while it's happening.

That's exactly how it was explained to me, that the spark moves around thus burning off any residue from previous ignitions. That is the whole purpose of rounding the end and edges, so that the spark doesn't remain in one spot. A kind of self cleaning action.

If that's true, then why don't we see that line if the plug ISN'T filed? And why is the performance better if there isn't a greater amount of fire?

I'm not sure I understand what the "line" is that you refer to.

The arch is in a single point of fire, not in a strip or, maybe what you are calling a "line" of fire. Lightning just needs the lightning rod, not necessarily the point at the top. It will hit just about anywhere along the lenghth of the rod. If you notice a lightning bolt, it hits at a "point" so to speak, not in a strip or "line". The size of the arch, depends on the intensity of the arch, but still at a point, not a "line" at point of impact.
Am I on the right track regarding your question concering the "line"?

Hi Texas Jim,

at the end I think that your method is the best.
If the spark is powerful enough , it will easily arc with the whole width of the neg contact edge.
the spark will have also more free space to burn gas , because the neg contact is not completely covering the pos contact

I think it's cool to have someone from another country other than the USA. One the "layitlow" lowrider site, there are guys from alot of European countries and Canada. At first, it was hard to believe that so many people in so many places were into lowriders, however they have gotten very in-depth. (I bought a set of Pro-Comp hydraulics w/accumulators from Pro-Hoppers for my Caddy about two years ago.) That's why I mention that site when we speak of suspension and quality custom fabrications.
I sincerely hope that we get more guys from different countries in the future. Aldo represents Italy very well, is knowledgable and is a perfect gentleman.(especially since he agreed with me on the "spark plug thing." LOL...just kidding.)
