I just purchased a 2002 Z06 with 3500 miles and thinking of purchasing a warranty. (or do I need one?)

A 2002 with 3500 miles is very low miles (35,000 would be more like it) so I would think it is in superb shape. I am not a fan of aftermarket warranties. It can be a hassle to collect, most don't cover the real things that need coverage, etc. But mostly, its because its like any other insurance: the insurer is charging you more than what he expects to pay out over time (that how he makes his profit). IF you get one, make sure you use it. But for myself, I'd just make sure I can afford to fix the car if it breaks.\ toward that end, the best thinkg you can do for you car is find a good, honest 'vette mechanic nearby who you have check the car over every once in a while and do all repairs, etc.

I bought my 01 with 38k miles and immediately bought an extended warranty. I did my research and went with Warranty Direct. The initial cost was a bit hard to swallow ($1900), however, I loved the fact that I am covered until 2009 or 100k miles. The good thing was that Warranty Direct allows you to pay in 10 installments. Fast forward 3 months: I brought the vette into the dealer to get a few small things done. I figured I would try out the warranty. I brought them this list: 1) Turn signals don't operate properly all the time. I suspect the hazard switch is bad. 2) The driver seat rocks back and forth about 1/2 inch, and squeaks 3) One tire pressure sensor does not register in cold weather Well, I get a call back from the dealership 2 days later, saying the warranty company is paying all of it. Total cost? $2200! The seat track alone was $800 just for the part. Anyway, like I said earlier, this was three months into the warranty, so I had only made 3 of the 10 payments. So, the warranty company has less than $600 of my money, and I have $2200 of theirs. Not to mention that I'm covered for another 3+ years, or 70,000 miles. Would I do it again? Most definately. And most certainly with Warranty Direct.
