DeeVee,
Is that small metal Edelbrock item on your Mickey Thompson valve cover not a "breather?"  It reminds me of the hot late '60s engines in everyone's cars in high school and just after.  And remember the "filler/breather" cap on the valve cover?  The ones w/ the steel wool in them.  LOL  That cap was also on the filler tubes of the 283s, when the valve covers were solid.  I remember them in my brother's and afew other guy's '57 Chevies that had a 283 in them.  They were the running cars in those days.  Now I look back and think about that BIG car w/ that SMALL V8 in it, even the worked ones... LOL
And that's a really good looking motor.  I especially like the "old Chevy orange paint" and the fuel pressure gauge.  It sounds stupid now to me, but I remember being quite annoyed when the small block Chevy turned that ugly blue.  As I said before, I built a 350, I believe it was a 1980 block, for my '62 Impala in '83, and I painted it "Chevy Orange."  To me, that was the "REAL" color of the Chevy engine.  How VERY close-minded and what a trip I was back then. LOL  I now feel that a person needs to change w/ the times if they want to live long and happy.  Thanks for the memories.

(My father's middle name was "Devee."  How did you come up w/ that User Nmae?)

I must confess, it is not Chevy Orange, but (ford) red.

How did I get the name DeeVeeEight?

I used to participate on that "other" forum, you know, the one with the mentally and chemically imbalanced napoleonic bi-polar schizophrenic "been abducted by aliens   that's why I act this way" moderators?

Well, I got into it with one of the mods there and the little prick sent me to banned camp for life for failing to reply to an email he sent me. I never knew I had the damned email until it was too late. Anyway - something must have been slow in their "detection" systems and I was able to log on under a new user name and play for a while longer. I was still pissed off at them, so I chose the name Deviate  - but it seems someone else already had it, so I simply rephrased it as DeeVeeEight. Anyway, that got me back in for awhile, then their system must have figured me out, 'cause I started getting blocked from participating in the forums. I really don't mind - I figure that they are a bunch of turds  who think that their stench don't stink. Ever since they sold the forum the pop up ads became unbearable too. It seems that a lot of people contributed money and information (I did) to that forum, then were unceremoniously dumped for no apparent reason. Now all of that information and money belongs to the owners of that forum and they profit from it, I am sure.
They also had a bunch of new folks come on board who were nothing but a bunch of posers, handing out some really bad information  and claiming to be the authority on the subject. The really sad thing is that for some reason the mods bought into all of this misinformation and thought that these posers walked on water. Most everybody who was anybody worthwhile seemed to be getting sent to banned camp (and pissed at the posers) and one day I simply asked "Hey! Where'd everybody go?" - I was redirected to this (and some other) forum(s) by another member  who was feeling the same way.
I do not go back to that other place EVER! It pleases me to no end to watch the mass migration of members from that site to other more user friendly sites like this one.

"We are on our way to the real Corvette Forums!!!"
Sorry for the rant, but does that answer your question?

Hey DV8, were sure glad to have ya here. I go to some shooting forums that seam to have a lot of folks like you describe. It cracks me up to read all the BS that's out there. We've had a few around here that I've seen just since I've been here but not too many. I hope it stays as friendly a place as it is now. I don't contribute much but I love coming around and meeting all the great folks. And again, we're glad you showed up, you're a valuable member with a lot of good help. Cheers.

PS: Great animation in your tale.

That was worth the price of admission.  Were you referring to the other forum in the singular?  Like no "s"?

I agree with Blue Shark that this is a good forum with a lot of good info from some great guys that aren't full of themselves.

BTW do you have any problem with mech secondaries?

I actually went to the other site first.
Just out of dumb luck, I added an "s" once, and wound up here.
I looked in, more than participated on the "other" forum, but when I saw spam in every thread , I haven't been back.

.....and I must agree,
We have been pickin' up some real sharp folk, and they're joining the teaching staff here at
"The University of Corvettology",....?......naw, it's gotta be,..
"Corvette Tech"!

to be honest I have been to the "other one" its just not as nice as here. Everyone on this forum seems to really love their cars  and are nice and are more than willing to anwser questions they know the anwser to or take the time to find the anwser.

To all my friends here, Thanks, it is good to be here!

73shark - mechanical secondaries were the first choice for my car. I have a manual transmission and about 400 HP so mechanical secondaries were recommended. Once the linkage was set up properly (it hit the intake manifold at one time) it was fine. When I push the go pedal - it really goes!
