Fuel Filter location? - 2/21/2008 6:46:38 PM    Rickcusaf   Posts: 172 Joined: 8/26/2007 Status: offline  I know where it's supposed to be, at least I thought I did, but I took off my air cleaner and for the life of me I can't find it. Enclosed are pictures of the engine bay. Post #: 1

RE: Fuel Filter location? - 2/21/2008 8:03:44 PM    73shark Posts: 1089 Joined: 4/18/2006 Status: offline Not familiar with your carb but did you remove the fitting where the gas goes in?  The Q-jet has either a sintered bronze (aka stone) or pleated paper filter that's spring loaded so that if it clogs, it doesn't shut you down. IMO you are both playing with fire (literally) with hoses on the pressure side of the fuel system unless it's the new FI hose used on today's vehicles.  There was a good reason GM used steel tubing w/ double flares.  Keeps your car from catching fire.  _____________________________ So many toys, so little time (in reply to Rickcusaf) Post #: 5

They dont come with a filter in them like the Q jets. You have to put one in the line. If you want to be fancy and spend about $40 or so Edlebrock makes a fuel filter kit for it. It's a steel line that screw into the inlet and has a 90 deg bend and goes under the linkage and has a removable filter on the end. Then hook the fuel line to that. NOTE - DO NOT USE GLASS FILTERS like you see in this picture. RE: Fuel Filter location? - 2/22/2008 6:33:54 AM    Texas Jim   Posts: 441 Joined: 12/15/2005 Status: offline DeeVee,   Is that small metal Edelbrock item on your Mickey Thompson valve cover not a "breather?"  It reminds me of the hot late '60s engines in everyone's cars in high school and just after.  And remember the "filler/breather" cap on the valve cover?  The ones w/ the steel wool in them.  LOL  That cap was also on the filler tubes of the 283s, when the valve covers were solid.  I remember them in my brother's and afew other guy's '57 Chevies that had a 283 in them.  They were the running cars in those days.  Now I look back and think about that BIG car w/ that SMALL V8 in it, even the worked ones... LOL    And that's a really good looking motor.  I especially like the "old Chevy orange paint" and the fuel pressure gauge.  It sounds stupid now to me, but I remember being quite annoyed when the small block Chevy turned that ugly blue.  As I said before, I built a 350, I believe it was a 1980 block, for my '62 Impala in '83, and I painted it "Chevy Orange."  To me, that was the "REAL" color of the Chevy engine.  How VERY close-minded and what a trip I was back then. LOL  I now feel that a person needs to change w/ the times if they want to live long and happy.  Thanks for the memories.    (My father's middle name was "Devee."  How did you come up w/ that User Nmae?)
