HELP!!!! Dead Battery

monterey06vert -> HELP!!!! Dead Battery (2/24/2008 3:54:22 PM)

I went to start my car and the battery was low.  I hooked up the jumper cables as shown in the manual.  The voltage said 13.6 and so I pushed the button.  The car shutdown and 10 seconds later booted back up.  I pushed again and it did the same.  Then all of the electronics and lights came on, but still would not start.  I shut the hood and the doors and the battery died completely.  I can't get in the car at all.  Any suggestions before I call the dealer tomorrow.  BTW my car is an automatic.

Is this a '06?. I went through some GM service notes and found a very common problem.The under the hood lamp tends to drain  the battery. Many theories on the facts. If you can get back in your car try to pull the wire on the lamp. Charge the battery  and try again. If this car is under warranty better go with the hook back to the dealer.

Yes, it is an 06.  I am dealing with the dealer today.  Thanks for the reply.

Sorry took so long.  It was a dead battery from not being started in 3 weeks.  I will start at least once a week from now on.  The dealer had to reprogram the convertible top.  They did cover the battery under the warranty.  The locksmith was able to pry the window open with an inflatable bag and use a pole with a hook to pull the handles on the floor that open the doors.  It took him about 5 minutes.  Thanks for your post.

I recommend buying a trickle charger and plug it in when the car is not in use. I installed a Solar model 1002 for $40 and its small enough that it attached permently to the battery.Works great.Also Mid America Motorworks has a emergency entry access system for $30 part # 634-149, if you want go the extra mile. Good Luck.
