On my '87 if I'm running in OD, which I am almost always, it will shift down to 3(drive) or lower depending on the speed I am traveling at the time I stomp the gas. Lets say at 40 you stomp the gass it will drop to 3rd or 2nd as needed or if at 60 you step on it it will drop to 3rd. The tranny will shift to different gears as needed depending on speed and load. hope this helps, Cheers

I adjusted my TV cable a few minutes ago. I just had new plugs/wires installed. I was driving today and thought it was shifting funny. Before the new plugs and wires the timing wqas set to 0*BTDC... believe it or not. The mechanic told me it was retarded that much. They set it to 6*BTDC (factory specs). Hoping the adjustment will help. Maybe the shifts are that smooth? I have 88k miles, assuming the tranny is original. Before the plugs/wire swap the 1-2 shift point put me in the back of the seat. It was real hard. Now the shifting seems like it is very smooth and close together.

It will re-program after a few days. I did it in my '87. For a while (I hardly ever drove it), it strung out the shift point, and shifted hard. Then it was back to normal.
