Hey guys, I'm just trying to figure this thing out . I'm almost ready for paint and I know the car is yellow but I am seeing black underneath.

The plate is marked as follows,  Cheverolet K19, Trim 1or I92, 52L paint. I have no idea what the k19 is and why the k is there, also the L in the 52L.

Can you help me out?

Well from seaching the C3 forums i have found some that talk about paint colors and the labels that were used. I have found out that i do have the original yellow corvett, 19k = black leather interior 52L  yellow laquer. I am happy because it is the most rare color produced. Most i have seen have stock black then painted yellow later. I have the paint and just have to put another coat of primer sand it and seal then paint after 2 months of working it when i can and many hours fiberglassing it will be ready. I also have new interior to put in but after paint.

Did you remove the old paint?

Are you repainting with two stage base/clear?

single stage It will be the enamel with no clear just this and a couple of coats. But i just trated the old paint and ruffed it up and smoothed the entire thing out then prepcoat. Then i have since sanded that off and now i am ready for the urethane primer then wet sand and then sealer and then the yellow.

When I repainted mine with lacquer back in the mid-80s, I ignored the advice of several pros who said to remove the old paint down to the factory primer.  Five years later I regretted it.  Maybe you won't have the problem w/ urethane.  Good luck.

BTW I like the yellow.  Did you have any problem getting a match in the urethane?

My buddy's dad restores old chevys and he uses acrylic enamel thats the type of paint I'm going to put on. But the prep work and the urethane primer is the real deal , as long as you have a good foundation it will come out great and last a long time. I have spent probably a good month just doing the body and then i did a acrylic primer , that was not good but then sanded it out and then now i will go with polyurethane primer . It's funny because i bought a gallon of the acrylic primer thinking that it would be enough, nope the primer only did the body and not the jams. So i am not going cheap and it will be very thorough.

I found the rust locations for the corvette on the Internet and have removed all of the rust and sanded and wire brushed all and have hit with a coat of rustoleum just to make the car last longer. Like to the left and right of the windshield and also where the water continues down and out. they had minor rust deposits but now fixed. I want to paint it and install the interior and put it on ebay and see what i can get for her . Then on to the next corvette. I know it's hard to say goodbye to something you spend so much time on but I enjoy doing it.
I will probably sell her for 9-15k with === rebuilt engine with pics, new paint , air condenser pump updated, two sets of t-tops/ black & mirrored glass < two sets of rims/ original & aftermarket with Hoosier slicks , new interior and side exhaust with a bypass lever for the side pipes. the engine is matching # also transmission, corvette tape deck

I also look forward to the next diamond.
