After 34 years I changed all the vacuum lines under the hood, took only an hour, but an easy project! I can't believe the great results, the lights pop up together and go down together. I had tried cutting off about 1/2 inch where they connected and that made it better, but with the new lines everything works like new. PG.

Interesting...

so the lights go together...

I'll do soon a check at vacuum lines for leaks, above all for the influence on engine operation

I suppose that more than a Corvette goes bad because of leakage at vacuum lines ( poor engine operation)

the leakages are usually where the hoses connects, right?

Or any place where they are near heat like near the engine because they become brittle and develop fine cracks.  Sometimes can break.

Hi rich G, I got them from www.riksvet.com and I used this free vacuum guide http://www.corvette-101.com/vacuum.htm PG.

PG,
Question for you.
When I pull my headlight switch out the lights go on but the doors do not open.
I have been using the pull down switch to open the doors.
Looks like a bear to get at the switch.
I am hoping that's not the problem.

Hi SCHOON, this is the way I think it works.
When the head light switch is pushed in (off position) vacuum can pass thru the two ports on the side of the switch.

When you pull the head light switch all the way out (head lights on) the vacuum is blocked, that makes the head lights go up.

When you pull down on the "Override" switch, that also blocks the vacuum and makes the head lights go up.

Vacuum:
starts at the intake manifold
then goes thru the filter
then goes thru the check valve
then goes thru the head light switch
then goes thru the pull down switch
and ends up thru a "T" at the top port of each relay.

So my guess is that the vacuum part of the head light switch is not stopping the vacuum.
PG.

I found first-hand that if you have a vacuum problem / the headlights, that when the switch is pulled f/ the headlights to be on, the vacuum leak isn't isolated to the headlight system, but causes a vacuum leak in the running of the engine and the car runs like crap w/ the lights pulled due to the leak, like any vacuum leak would cause in the running of the engine.  So, don't put-off fixing your vacuum leak in the headlight system, as your 'Vette will run terrible in the dark- not due to a ghost.

I'm pretty sure that the vacuum lines on my car are OK, otherwise my engine would run poor... but one of these days I'll try to remove all the "services" from the manifold vacuum and see if the engine runs better. If so , a leakage have to be somewhere...
Actually my heating system doesn't work. I don't have air flowing in the cockpit even if the fan runs...
