corvette1976 -> floor pan and seat belt (5/31/2008 6:18:53 AM)

I have a 1976 corvette with a ton of rust on the floor pan of the driver's side. It is so bad that there is even a hole through the pan. I was wondering if anyone knows of a place where I could buy some new ones at the cheapest price. Also the seat belt on the driver side wont pull out and after hours of messing with it, I came up with no progress. If anyone knows of any websites with diagrams of it or a place where I could buy a new one for the least amount of money, it would be greatly appreciated.

Here's one source: http://www.corvette-paragon.com/catalog/Product.aspx?id=CC4C3A29-FDF4-4BE1-B93D-9DD088FE4836

Found a retractor here: http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb.dll?parta~partsort

As you can see, our hobby is expensive.

Yea I know this hobby is expensive especially when your 16, but there is nothing better than a American muscle corvette as your fist car.

I had a similar problem with my 75. I am 20 by the way and I know that money is something that doesn''t grow on trees so I try to save what I can. I took both seats out and removed the pan. A whire brush is great to remove excess rust and rustoleum and would be ggod to prevent future breakdown from the moisture. As far as the seatbelts go, mine had a lot of rust in the actual mechanism. I removed it and tool a screw driver and a wire brush to clean it out. The rust keeps the belt from opening. Then I took white grease and lubricated it well. Should be able to prolong the life of your belts this way and because belt mechanisms are expensive, I would try this first. Good luck bud.

Hey guys I can appreciate the money aspect of your problem but I must tell you that the few dollars you save trying to make those belts work are not worth the risk of your life or possibly someone else''s that is riding with you.  There isn''t much protection in these beauties so the investment in new belts is well worth the price.  Ecklers has a complete set in stock. I just ordered and received them after waiting almost 8 months for them to be restocked again.  $485.00 for the set and I now feel as secure as I can be.  Food for thought guys!!
