1978 rear end question

MACTANK -> 1978 rear end question (6/7/2008 4:45:44 AM)

What could be the cause/solution to a toe out issue of the right rear tire?

Hi Mac, welcome to the greatest auto forum on the net. The toe and camber are adjustable independently, similar to the front end. If you notice it changing then the culprit is worn bushings in the trailing arms and/or struts. The half-shaft universal joints and the differential side yokes also play a big part in the control of the rear alignment geometry. If you find play in any of these components it''s time for suspension work. It could also be just a matter of re-aligning the rear if the previous owner already replaced some parts and didn''t have it aligned.

Mactank,

I wouldn''t take it to just anyone that does alignments. Find someone who is well known for specialty alignments. Some may cut corners and set the tow and go method. Specialy if you are putting new tires on it.
