Just changed cam, carb, intake and distributor on my 81 and now i have no tachometer!!! The carb is an original quadrajet but it doesn't have the provisions for all the electrical hookups im trying to avoid the onboard computer at all costs. Does anyone know how to hookup the original tach or where the wire lead is for it??? any help would be appreciated.

First of all, what distributor did you install? The tach wire goes to the negative side of the ignition coil. If the distributor looks like most mid 80's distributor with the coil in the cap, it has a tach lead hookup on the distributor. If the coil is external or if you have multiple spark discharge box, it will have a place to hook up a tach lead.

It is just a late model HEI distributor with a vaccum advance I know where to hook the wire up, however i cannot find the wire in the loom inorder to hook it up. I have bypassed all the electrical plugins that plugged into the original non vaccum advance distributor. I'm just looking to find out which wire i need to hook to the new distributor.
